Programme of Study

Most children are taken to dance class not to become a professional but to acquire poise, grace and co-ordination which hopefully will become natural to them. We deliver the correct technique of dance, develop self-discipline, knowledge and musicality and ensure our students enjoy the dancing experience. We inspire and nurture our students and challenge them to do their best by passing on the wisdom and value of traditional, tried and tested teaching methods and styles.

BTDA and the Regulated Qualifications Framework

British Theatre dance association examinations are regulated by the graded Qualifications Alliance. GQAL is an accredited awarding organisation by the office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulations (Ofqual) and its qualifications are part of the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).

These qualifications offer learners the scope to study several dance disciplines enabling them to develop a comprehensive understanding of dance and performance providing a firm foundation of technique that can be progressively built upon. The General Graded Examinations are not age related and are open to a wide range of learners. They are aimed at anyone who is capable of safely reaching the required standard.

There are 8 grades covering RQF levels 1-3 and these are available in a range of dance disciplines.

The Vocational Graded Examinations in Theatre Dance offers learners the scope to study several dance disciplines enabling them to develop a comprehensive understanding of dance and performance providing a firm foundation of technique that can be progressively built upon.

It encourages them to research, prepare and demonstrate their ability to operate as a dance professional and to actively participate in their own professional development.

The Vocational Graded Examinations are open to anyone who is 12 years of age or over at the time of entry for Intermediate to Advanced 2 and 15 years of age or over at the time of entry for the Professional Development level and has the physical capacity to safely reach the required standard. Learners must also meet the qualification entry requirements as follows:
